Anti-War Dems & Code Pink On The Prowl...
SARASOTA, FL (NS/AP) -
It was billed as a 'Code Pink' demonstration that was being held outside Congressman Vern Buchanan's office on North Orange Avenue and Fruitville Road on Friday...
However the timing was identical to the Anti-War Democrats in the Senate announcing their intent to 'undeclare' the War in Iraq by attempting to limit the powers of the President given under the War Powers Act...
Senator Diane Feinstein (D-Cal) has introduced a bill in the U.S. Senate which would do exactly that. However this legislation faces many uncertainties because of the previous attempt to pass a non-binding Resolution last week that failed because it couldn't get the 60 votes in the Senate to pass it...
Removing the President's war-making authority has only been done once before and had little effect and accomplished nothing...
By my count, which I did 3 times, there were '38' people lining Fruitville Road in front of the 235 North Orange Avenue Office of 13th Florida Congressional District Representative Vern Buchanan today...
The same people you've seen around Sarasota and Manatee County representing Coalition of Concerned Patriots, Veterans for Common Sense and Code Pink were there with their usual cast of 'characters'...
At the same time I was watching 2 Sarasota Police Officer's watching the Demonstrators in front of the Congressman's Office from about a half block away...
Another thing I witnessed was Dan Furtado, who usually shows up for these demonstrations, driving his older model Ford pickup pulling his little tow behind trailer with an 'Impeach Bush' and 'Stop The War' signs...
The only question I had was how many miles per gallon was he getting while he was driving around the block???
The demonstrators were peaceful and not that noisy, although there was a bullhorn being used, while I did hear a few car horns blowing, I also saw several '1 finger' salutes issued to them as well from passing motorist's...
If they were trying to get noticed by the Media, that did NOT happen. Besides myself, the only other Reporter who showed up was Jeremy Wallace of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune...
Jeremy and I also had an interesting conversation while upstairs in Congressman Vern Buchanan's Office. He saw a small group of Vietnam Veterans who had met with the 13th Congressional District Veterans Constituent, Joni Hansen, in the office and some of the 5 Vietnam Veterans from American Legion - China Post #1 who were present. They told him that we supported our Troops and their mission and we did not support the demonstration going on outside in ANY way...
What was also interesting to note was the majority of the people on the street just happened to be members of the same group that had previously demonstrated numerous times for the loser in the 13th Congressional District, Christine Jennings...
I was really surprised that we did not see Ms. Jennings show up...
It should also be mentioned that the Vice Chairman of the Manatee County Democratic Party, Mitch Mallett, was also present but he remained behind most of the demonstrators speaking with the 'Code Pink' ladies quite a bit of the time...
This showed the obvious 'political nature' of the demonstration and the involvement of the Manatee County Democratic Party...
Though it was called a 'Code Pink' Demonstration, it had the support of numerous members of the Manatee County Democratic Party who just happened to be amongst the demonstrators holding signs and chanting "Stop The War"...
As the Anti-War demonstrations continue, there's an old statement that comes to mind, "if you keep saying the same thing over and over whether it's true or not, sooner or later people start accepting it as fact."
The only problem is sometimes the statement or statements being made are not the 'facts' to begin with...
Also present on the Street were Francis and Peter Rice, both retired Military Officers, who were 'counter protesting' the Code Pink group, showing their support for our Troops and their mission. The Rice's also made reference to the obvious 'political tone' and support being shown from the Manatee County Democratic Party members participating in the demonstration...
So we'll just watch and see how all of this plays out as we get closer to the 2008 Presidential Election. I guarantee you it will get a lot more interesting...
Reporting from 235 N. Orange Avenue, that's all for now...

| The Fireman... |

SARASOTA, FL. (NS) -
In Phoenix, Arizona, a 26-year-old mother stared
down at her 6 year old son, who was dying of
terminal leukemia. Although her heart was filled
with sadness, she also had a strong feeling of
determination. Like any parent, she wanted her
son to grow up and fulfill all his dreams. Now
that was no longer possible...
The leukemia would see to that. But she still
wanted her son's dreams to come true. She took
her son's hand and asked, "Billy, did you ever
think about what you wanted to be once you grew
up? Did you ever dream and wish what you would do
with your life?"
Mommy, "I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up."
Mom smiled back and said, "Let's see if we can
make your wish come true."
Later that day she went to her local fire
department in Phoenix, Arizona, where she met
Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as Phoenix.
She explained her son's final wish and asked if
it might be possible to give her six-year-old son
a ride around the block on a fire engine...
Fireman Bob said, "Look, we can do better than
that. If you'll have your son ready at seven
o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make him an
honorary fireman for the whole day. He can come
down to the fire station, eat with us, go out on
all the fire calls, the whole nine yards! And if
you'll give us ! his sizes, we'll get a real fire
uniform for him, with a real fire hat-not a toy
one-with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire
Department on it, a yellow slicker like we wear
and rubber boots. They're all manufactured right
here in Phoenix, so we can get them fast."
Three days later Fireman Bob picked up Billy,
dressed him in his fire uniform and escorted him
from his hospital bed to the waiting hook and
ladder truck. Billy got to sit on the back of the
truck and help steer it back to the fire station.
He was in heaven. There were three fire calls in
Phoenix that day and Billy got to go out on all
three calls. He rode in the different fire
engines, the paramedic's van, and even the fire chief's car.
He was also videotaped for the local news
program. Having his dream come true, with all the
love and attention that was lavished upon him, so
deeply touched Billy that he lived three months
longer than any doctor thought possible.
One night all of his vital signs began to drop
dramatically and the head nurse, who believed in
the hospice concept that no one should die alone,
began to call the family members to the hospital...
Then she remembered the day Billy had spent as a
fireman, so she called the Fire Chief and asked
if it would be possible to send a fireman in
uniform to the hospital to be with Billy as he
made his transition...
The chief replied, "We can do better than that.
We'll be there in five minutes...
Will you please do me a favor???
When you hear the sirens screaming and see the
lights flashing, will you announce over the PA
system that there is not a fire? It's just the
fire department coming to see one of its finest
members one more time...
And will you open the window to his room???
About five minutes later a hook and ladder truck
arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder
up to Billy's third floor open window
16 firefighters climbed up the ladder into
Billy's room...
With his mother's permission, they
hugged him and held him and told him how much
they loved him...
With his dying breath, Billy
looked up at the fire chief and said,
"Chief, am I really a fireman now?"
"Billy, you are, and the Head Chief, Jesus, is holding your hand,"
the chief said...
With those words, Billy smiled and said,
"I know, He's been holding my hand all day, and the angels have been
singing."
He closed his eyes one last time...
Folks this is a true story and it's worth sending to the News Sarasota
Google Group...

| We Support Our Troops... |

SARASOTA, FL. (NS) -
Written By

On March 8, 2007, Move America Forward will begin their "These Colors
Don't Run" caravan in San Francisco, California. Traveling across the
country, their mission is to rally those who truly support the troops
to send a message to Congress and the minions following 60s hippie,
protestor has-been, Jihad Jane (formerly known as Hanoi Jane) that
America supports our troops and our mission...
While putting the caravan information up on my web sites, I looked on
my desk at a photo of my husband, Mark, and Sgt. Rocky Payne of the
497th Transportation Company, Ft. Lewis, Washington. Mark was a
civilian trucker delivering the mail to our troops in Iraq and Sgt.
Payne's unit was their military escort. On March 9, 2005, a VBIED
exploded seconds after Mark's truck passed. Sgt. Payne was killed in
the explosion. Posted on the Internet is a video taken by the scum,
hiding in the distance, that killed Sgt. Payne that day as they
cheered at the destruction. This is the cowardly, despicable low life
thugs that Fonda and Company, as well as our own Congress, supports in
this war...
Sgt. Rocky Payne, US Army, Spc. Isaiah Hunt, US Army, Spc Jeremy
Ridlen, Illinois National Guard, Sgt. Ivory Phipps, Illinois National
Guard, Sgt Shawna Morrison, Illinois National Guard, Sgt Jessica
Cawvey, Illinois National Guard, Spc. Charles Lamb, Illinois National
Guard. These courageous men and women died in Iraq. They died to
ensure our country will not be over run by the murderous, maniacal
Islamic fanatics that want to kill us. These courageous warriors
protected my husband and many other civilian truckers in that
mission. Spc Jason Cooper of the 308th Quartermaster Unit, Iowa, died
after returning home...
The late Herb Wall and Bill "Postman" Remely, both civilian
contractors who served in Iraq, passed away within a year of returning
home. A US Navy veteran, Remely joined the thousands of American
truckers in Iraq to serve this country and support our troops...
I will not tolerate the memory of these wonderful friends to be
disgraced by those washed up protesters delivering the same disrespect
they gave our troops in Viet Nam. They do not speak for us - they
never have...
I urge everyone to visit www.moveamericaforward.org and join in the
caravan. We cannot continue to sit by while the has-been hippies run
our Congress and the media. We must send a message loud and clear
that we support the troops, we support the mission and we support
America...
